Lisa Wu Fate
Ms. Fate is a Senior Associate in our Litigation group. Her practice areas include Litigation, Public Law/Privacy, and Athlete Representation, among other areas.
Prior to joining our Columbus office in 2006, Ms. Fate was Director of former Ohio Auditor of State Betty Montgomery’s Open Government Unit, and previously, she was the Public Records Officer for then-Ohio Attorney General Betty Montgomery. Serving in those capacities, Ms. Fate became widely recognized as an expert in the areas of Ohio public records and open meetings law, providing hundreds of training seminars throughout the state.
After being appointed by Chief Justice Moyer to serve on the Supreme Court of Ohio’s subcommittee on Privacy and Public Access in 2001, Ms. Fate developed an expertise in the expanding area of personal privacy as related to public records and the Internet, as well as privacy issues in health care law under HIPAA regulations.
Ms. Fate is presently developing a practice in athlete representation, specifically in the sport of soccer. As Vice-Chair of the Ohio State Bar Association’s Sports & Entertainment Law Committee, Ms. Fate has organized educational programs bringing nationally-recognized speakers to Columbus presenting topics of interest for practitioners, as well as athletes and performers.
Ms. Fate has authored numerous publications and articles in the areas of public records, open meetings, and privacy. Ms. Fate serves on the Boards of Trustees for Ronald McDonald House Charities and the Asian Pacific American Bar Association. Ms. Fate is also involved in fundraising to benefit the non-profit organization On My Own, Inc., and serves on the Advisory Board for Moms for Ohio.
Ms. Fate graduated with Honors from the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law and with High Distinction from the University of Michigan. She is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, the Columbus Bar Association, and the American Bar Association. Ms. Fate is admitted to practice law in Ohio and before the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Northern Districts of Ohio and the U.S. Court of Appeals, 6th Circut.
