Kendra L. Carpenter

Ms. Carpenter is of counsel the firm's Columbus office. Ms. Carpenter practices in the areas of family law and civil litigation, focusing on employment law and small business litigation.

Ms. Carpenter has represented individuals throughout Central Ohio in matters pertaining to child custody, divorce, dissolution, and post-decree matters. In addition, she has both prosecuted and defended Family Medical Leave Act, Americans with Disability Act, Wage and Hour and various other employment discrimination and retaliation cases. Further, Ms. Carpenter has represented businesses of various sizes in litigation involving contract disputes, lease disagreements, premises liability, construction/workmanship and replevin actions.

Prior to joining Maguire & Schneider, LLP, she was an associate at Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease, LLP and later left to open her own firm, Carpenter Law Office, LLC. Throughout her career, Ms. Carpenter has provided numerous pro-bono hours to those in need of domestic violence protection orders and family law services.

Before earning her law degree, Ms. Carpenter represented employers in workers' compensation and unemployment disputes before the Industrial Commission of Ohio and the Ohio Bureau of Employment Services, respectively. She also worked for a small construction company in Columbus as their first Human Resources Director, where she implemented employment policies and practices. Also, Ms. Carpenter has lectured and advised businesses in the areas of workplace safety and risk management.

Ms. Carpenter is admitted to State of Ohio, 2001; Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, 2002, U.S. District Courts, Southern and Northern Districts of Ohio; Eleventh Circut Court of Appeals, 2003.

Ms. Carpenter is a former Capital Area Humane Society board member and continues to provide pro bono services to the Society and other animal welfare organizations, including the Ohio Society for the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals. In addition, Ms. Carpenter is a member of the board of trustees of the Central Ohio Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, where she initiated the passage of a law designating September as Ohio's official Leukemia, Lymphoma and Multiple Myleoma Awareness Month. Ms. Carpenter is a frequent lecturer on issues dealing with cancer and the law and advocates in Congress for cancer research funding. She is also very active in local politics.
